Minings
DO assess and mitigate gender risks within your mineral supply chains, your programmes, and financial flows by setting up a human rights due diligence system to ensure that serious abuses are identified, addressed, prevented, mitigated and accounted for. DO realize that women are disproportionally affected by environmental risks in mineral supply chains. Governments, companies and financial institutions can apply pressure and assist upstream suppliers active in the extraction, transport and trade of minerals to execute gender impact assessments to ensure their projects minimise harm and play a positive role in addressing gender inequality. DO make a gender action plan and make your reports publicly available.

Mining in Europe
Within the gender action plan, describe how to identify and address gender risks in your supply chain and incorporate practical opportunities to rectify gender inequality.
Embed this in audits and annual reporting, using relevant indicators to monitor performance. Develop capacity internally and across your networks to build understanding of how gender inequalities are sustained in mineral supply chains and stimulate action to redress the balance. DO introduce measures to counter risks of backlash as women become more empowered. Include these in your risk management plan and suggest adequate mitigation, monitoring and accountability mechanisms.
DO get the facts and use them! Support gender research and strengthen the evidence base. Ensure that your organization collects data sensitively on the gender dimensions of serious abuses. IGF has published an annotated bibliography in an effort to tackle the lack of gender-focused research on ASM. It provides an overview of 70 key resources published in the last decade.
The session will be led by Ege Tekinbas from the IGF and panelists will discuss the role of governments in mining countries in setting regulatory frameworks to ensure responsible practices on gender in mining. Read More. Mineral blocks of non-minor minerals are being put up for auctions by the States for Mining or Prospecting cum Mining, depending on their level of exploration. The grant process is to be completely transparent through competitive bidding on an e-auction portal. The aim on the National Mineral Policy NMP is to have an effective, meaningful and implementable policy that brings further transparency, better regulation and enforcement, balanced social and economic growth as well as sustainable mining practices. The NMP aims to attract private investment through incentives while the efforts would be made to maintain a database of mineral resources and tenements under the mining tenement system. Have a Query?
What are the main methods of mining?
The relationship was first formalised in The partnership has also examined the challenges of dealing with legacy mines, and free prior informed consent of indigenous peoples and local communities in potential mining areas. In , the two organisations renewed their collaboration through a five-year Memorandum of Understanding. Building on previous work, specific projects under the MoU are carried out through Supplemental Agreements negotiated between the two parties. ICMM: A mandate for sustainable development ICMM is an industry group that specifically works to improve sustainable development performance in the mining and metals industry. Established in , the organization currently represents 27 mining and metals companies as well as more than 30 regional and commodity associations. ICMM emerged from the Mining, Minerals and Sustainable Development MMSD project, a multi-stakeholder research initiative established in , following criticism of industrial mining operations from environmental and social groups in the s. Furthermore, the organisation has a policy of engaging with a diverse group of stakeholders for its sustainable development work. Business and Biodiversity.

The Vares Project contains two advanced exploration deposits, Veovaca and Rupice, which have previously been mined for Lead, Zinc and Barite. Operations ceased prior to the commencement of hostilities in the Balkans in the early s. The deposits have been subject to extensive exploration, and contain significant quantities of Lead, Zinc, Silver, Gold, Copper and Barite. The precious metals were irregularly assayed during exploration, but were present in produced concentrates. View Our Interactive 3D Model.

Code of practice on safety and health in underground coalmines Code of practice on safety and health in opencast mines. Safety and health in small-scale surface mines: A handbook. Resource guide on the mining sector Occupational safety and health in the mining coal and other mining sector. Minerals and mineral products are the backbone of most industries and some form of mining or quarrying is carried out in nearly every country in the world. It has important economic, environmental, labour and social effects. Taking action on labour challenges in the mining sector The ILO has been dealing with labour and social problems in the mining industry since its early days, making considerable efforts to improve the work and life of miners - from the adoption of the Hours of Work Coal Mines Convention No. Work in this subsector is guided by the Conclusions of the ILO tripartite sectoral meeting on small-scale mining , which addressed safety and health, child labour, and environmental issues in small-scale mining. New developments After an exceptionally long period of growing commodity prices, important industry actors are foreseeing a slowing down of growth and a possible reduction in production and employment within the industry.

A Brief History of Mining
The Mining, Minerals and Sustainable Development Project MMSD was a research project looking at how the mining and minerals sector could contribute to the global transition to sustainable development. This introduction describes what the project set out to do and the process that evolved to accomplish those goals. This page collates all the material previously available from the former website www. All project documents, including the MMSD Working paper Series, final reports, regional reports, project bulletins and workshop notes are available for free download. The mining and minerals industry has come under tremendous pressure to improve its social, developmental and environmental performance. Like other parts of the corporate world, companies are more routinely expected to perform to ever higher standards of behaviour, going well beyond achieving the best rate of return for shareholders.

Norway is sitting on large, untapped mineral deposits, according to investigations so far. We are focusing our efforts on three high worldwide demand resources and EU Critical Raw Materials: vanadium, phosphate and titanium. The use of phosphate fertilisers in the past 50 years has boosted crop yields and helped feed millions, if not billions, of people. A by-product of iron-ore, vanadium is hugely valuable in manufacturing due to its malleable, ductile and corrosion-resistant qualities. Norway has deposits of gold assets in the south of the country.
