Blockchain and edge computing
With the announcements, Jio has indicated that it is going to herald a new era of communication and digitalisation, which is not just restricted to telecom, but encompasses everything which touches digital, both for end consumers as well as businesses. In the past, Jio mobile services gave a huge push to services in the retail and finance space, and so players like Paytm, Flipkart and thousands of others directly benefited. Had it not been for Jio, many of the digital businesses might not worked as well as they have in the last few years, as the company gave a platform for those businesses to directly connect with customers, derive valuable insights and create new business models. Now with the recent announcements, one thing has become very clear— Reliance Jio plans to focus on its business of creating digital solutions.

What happens when the edge, AI, and blockchain get together?
Zaheer Khan Zaheer2. Khan uwe. Smart cities aim to provide smart governance with the emphasis on gaining high transparency and trust in public services and enabling citizen participation in decision making processes.
This means on the one hand data generated from urban transactions need to be open and trustworthy. On the other hand, security and privacy of public data needs to be handled at different administrative and geographical levels.
In this paper, we investigate the pivotal role of blockchain in providing privacy, self-verification, authentication, and authorization of participatory transactions in open governance.
We also investigate up to what extent edge computing can contribute toward management of permissioned sharing at specific administrative levels and enhance privacy and provide an economic approach for resource utilization in a distributed environment. We introduce a novel architecture that is based on distributed hybrid ledger and edge computing model. The architecture provides refined and secure management of data generated and processed in different geographical and administrative units of a city.
We implemented a proof of concept of the architecture and applied it on a carefully designed use case, ie, citizen participation in administrative decisions through consensus. This use case highlights the need to keep and process citizen participation data at local level by deploying district chaincodes and only share consensus results through permissioned chaincodes.
The results reveal that proposed architecture is scalable and provide secure and privacy protected environment for citizen participatory applications.
Our performance test results are promising and show that under control conditions, the average registration time for a citizen transaction is about 42ms, whilst the validation and result compilation of concurrent citizens' transactions took about 2. Breaking Down Reliance Jio’s Entry Into The World Of Blockchain, IoT & Edge Computing
Edge computing is promising to solve the latency issue in the Internet of Vehicles IoV. However, due to decentralization, traditional edge computing suffers in management, deployment, and security. Containerization relaxes resource deployment and migration problems, but current container scheduling policies are inefficient to process complicated tasks based on directed acyclic graph or DAG structures. In this article, we design a containerized edge computing platform CUTE, which provides low-latency computation services for the Internet of Vehicles. The centralized controller is empowered with resource management and orchestration, and containers are scheduled to appropriate edge servers to optimize the computation delay.
SYMPOSIUM ON EDGE COMPUTING SECURITY AND BLOCKCHAIN - Call For Papers
EdgeBlock is an international forum for researchers to present their latest researches and perspectives on the intersection of blockchain and edge computing including Internet of Things — IoT. This is an interdisciplinary area that is of increasingly importance. For example, in our new networked society where there are a broad range of IoT devices and cyber physical systems around us, and data from these devices and systems generated at the edge of the network are been sent to some edge devices or the cloud servers for processing and storage. The utility of blockchain in a number of applications, including to secure data-in-transit and data-at-rest in IoT and cyber physical systems, has also been explored in the research community. This is not surprising due to the inherent features of blockchain, such as decentralization and immutability. Therefore, in this workshop we are interested in determining how can we leverage blockchain characteristics to establish trusted environments for IoT, social networking, cyber security and other commercial applications. Topic of particular interest include, but not limited to:. This workshop is also particularly interested in practical applications , which includes prototype demonstrations of novel solutions. ECLB: Edge-Computing-Based Lightweight Blockchain Framework for Mobile Systems
Abstract: Blockchains started as an enabling technology in the area of digital currencies with the introduction of Bitcoin. However, blockchains have emerged as a technology that goes beyond financial transactions by providing a platform supporting secure and robust distributed public ledgers. We think that the Internet of Things IoT can also benefit from blockchain technology, especially in the areas of security, privacy, fault tolerance, and autonomous behavior. Here we present a decision framework to help practitioners systematically evaluate the potential use of blockchains in an IoT context.
StrongNode.io to create a secure and scalable distributed edge network for the blockchain economy
As the great prevalence of various Internet of Things IoT terminals, how to solve the problem of isolated information among different IoT platforms attracts attention from both academia and industry. It is necessary to establish a trusted access system to achieve secure authentication and collaborative sharing. Therefore, this article proposes a distributed and trusted authentication system based on blockchain and edge computing, aiming to improve authentication efficiency. This system consists of physical network layer, blockchain edge layer and blockchain network layer. Through the blockchain network, an optimized practical Byzantine fault tolerance consensus algorithm is designed to construct a consortium blockchain for storing authentication data and logs.
Verizon Business and Atos to power leading predictive analytics 5G edge solution
Edge is the concept that moves computing from a centralized model to a decentralized one, away from datacenter consolidation across cloud and infrastructure, applications, and workloads and closer to where data is generated or consumed. Secure access service edge SASE is on the radar of some businesses seeking to augment traditional security controls, bring the network and security closer together, and allow for broader, more centralized visibility across an edge network attack surface. The report showed that while the mechanics of edge network usage differ significantly for businesses across the healthcare, finance, public, manufacturing, retail, and energy sectors, edge cyber risks are being felt by all. Private 5G and cloud were cited as the preferred edge network overall, with the former expected to be the leading-edge network environment used to support use cases for the next three years. SASE was cited as the standout growth engine due to the increasing number of organizations moving to cloud-based solutions and its ability to bring the network and security closer together.

DEAN: A blockchain protocol for more reliable edge computing
Blockchain, as the backbone technology of the current popular Bitcoin digital currency, has become a promising decentralized data management framework. Although blockchain has been widely adopted in many applications e. This is due to the fact that blockchain users need to solve preset proof-of-work puzzles to add new data i. Solving the proof of work, however, consumes substantial resources in terms of CPU time and energy, which is not suitable for resource-limited mobile devices. To facilitate blockchain applications in future mobile Internet of Things systems, multiple access mobile edge computing appears to be an auspicious solution to solve the proof-of-work puzzles for mobile users.
