Transaction data including connectivity time and location is stamped on the blockchain, and therefore immutable and inspectable. This HNT stamp uses a gateway-embedded miner, and grants coverage for hundreds of miles. The service targets low-power sensors and devices such as animal collars and bicycle trackers, among other IoT cases. It also claims it has more than , hotspots back-ordered, waiting to come online, plus over 50 new manufacturers waiting to be approved to build Helium-compatible hardware.

Amazon Sidewalk vs Helium Network: The Race for IoT Dominance
Helium, the blockchain-driven Internet of Things network co-founded by Napster creator Shawn Fanning, has officially expanded into Europe with its hotspots shipping to the region beginning in July. Each hotspot serves up to a mile radius via LongFi technology, allowing compatible Internet of Things devices of all sorts to connect to the Internet. The idea is to create a low-power, wide-area network—which Helium says is already active in more than 1, US cities—without the need for a company or other entity to maintain it.
Alongside European expansion, the company today also announced the launch of Helium Tabs, tiny trackers that can be affixed to items to find them if lost. Thanks to the Helium network, the Tabs offer dramatically longer-range connectivity than existing Wi-Fi and Bluetooth trackers. Helium has rapidly expanded since launching its first test network in Austin, Texas last August. The Helium service is now live in more than 1, US cities, covering more than , square miles, according to the company.
Once deployed, hotspots automatically communicate with each other and extend the overall reach of the network. Companies such as Nestle, Agulus, and Conserv use Helium technology to monitor connected devices such as office refrigerators, smart dog collars, and agricultural equipment. Helium hotspots interact to provide a blanket of coverage for IoT smart devices, while their owners crypto. The venture was founded by Napster co-creator Shawn Fanning and backed by Google Ventures, among others.

OK, strap yourself in because this story has it all: 5G, unlicensed spectrum, IoT, private networks, eSIM, cryptocurrency, blockchain and a really disruptive approach to telecom services. But most importantly, it has a mechanism to reward regular people for building their own 5G hotspot. Meaning, you could get paid by Helium for installing a 5G transmitter on top of your house. I've also spoken to some top-level executives in the wireless industry who said they've made similar money doing the same thing. One told me he's making several thousand dollars per month thanks to the Helium transmitters he's operating in downtown Denver. But here's the new thing: Helium is starting to become a legitimate player in the telecom industry. In the past week, both Senet and GigSky announced they will add Helium's network to their own lineup of offerings. It's kind of a different concept. But when you can take blockchain and use it to do something, that's very tangible. Like, for us, creating wireless networks.

Senet operates the first and only National public, carrier-grade LoRaWAN network and through this roaming integration, its customers deploying enterprise and consumer-grade devices now have expanded access to public network coverage provided by over , Helium-compatible Hotspots deployed by individuals throughout the US. This network access is available from Senet under its Extended Coverage offering and is supported by Senet network management services, delivering the highest levels of reliability and responsiveness for scaled IoT applications. For Helium-compatible Hotspot owners, this partnership provides an opportunity for increased network traffic generated by high density IoT applications being deployed by Senet customers, such as asset tracking, logistics and supply chain monitoring, environmental monitoring, and municipal Smart City services. These customers represent well over one billion transactions processed on the Senet network annually.

We don't support Internet Explorer
The Helium Network attempts to build a decentralized network of IoT hotspots with privacy and security at the forefront of its vision. The recently released Amazon Sidewalk network aims for a similar goal with a much different view on privacy. This competition runs parallel to a fable we all know: who is the hare and who is the tortoise? The answer could lie in the difference between centralized and decentralized services. The barrier of entry to internet infrastructure is establishing gateways at scale comparable existing industry leaders. The decline is troubling to Amazon, which is why they continually lower the purchase price of the Echo Dot. The possibilities of Amazon Sidewalk are dependent on how many people own Amazon products.
Senet and Helium Announce LoRaWAN Network Integration Partnership
The internet has transformed the way the world communicates, learns, governs, and exchanges ideas, but billions of people across the globe lack reliable, affordable access. Loon was a radical approach to expanding internet connectivity. Instead of trying to extend the internet with traditional ground-based infrastructure like fiber optics cables or cell phone towers, Loon took to the sky with a network of balloons. Loon's balloons traveled along the edge of space to expand internet connectivity to rural areas, fill coverage gaps, and improve network resilience in the event of disaster.
Helium Network (HNT): Decentralizing Wireless Networks
Thank you to everyone who took the time to join my crypto livestream last night. It was an incredible night, one that was years in the making. I had been patiently waiting for the right time to launch my research product focused on next-generation cryptocurrencies, and finally, that time has come. I call it Web 3.

Its transmitters can help track stolen scooters, find missing dogs via IoT collars and collect data from infrastructure sensors. Operating those hotspots earns owners a cryptocurrency token Helium promises will be valuable in the future…. Investors are betting that he can change the tech world again, this time with a wireless protocol that like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth before it could unlock unique business opportunities. InvisiLeash will partner with it to build more trackable pet collars. Agulus will pull data from irrigation valves and pumps for its agriculture tech business. Haleem also imagines the tech being useful for tracking wildfires or radiation.

There's also live online events, interactive content, certification prep materials, and more. The first major [blockchain] breakthrough was bitcoin, which invented digital gold. The second was Ethereum, which introduced general-purpose smart contracts. After months of marketing and promotion, participants had come from all over Texas to pick up their Helium Hotspots.
