Russian mining farm
Russia's Minto Cryptocurrency Mining Farm. Racks of mining rigs at a cryptocurrency mining center in Nadvoitsy, Russia. Bloomberg — The central bank of Russia, the third-biggest crypto mining nation in the world, proposed a blanket ban on the use and creation of all cryptocurrencies domestically. Cryptocurrencies bear the hallmarks of a pyramid scheme and undermine the sovereignty of monetary policy, posing a threat to the Russian financial system, the central bank said in a report published Thursday. Opposition and media funding accounts for an insignificant fraction of crypto use in Russia but the security services are worried that it is a growing problem, they said. But at the same time, we are pleased if other organs share it.

Stunning Photographs From The Inside Of Russia’s Largest Bitcoin Mine
Moldova's President met the wealthy Russian businessman Igor Chaika in St Petersburg on Thursday — prompting speculation that their talks touched on Chaika's interest in 'mining' bitcoin in Moldova's breakaway 'crypto-friendly' region. Photo: Igor Dodon Facebook account.
The duo met at the economic forum in St Petersburg. Mining farms are hardware that help create cryptocurrency by using the computing power of PC systems. Chaika visited Moldova in September for talks with Dodon. The Moldovan President then wrote on Facebook about the prospects for business development with Russian investors. Immediately after the meeting, Chaika went to Tiraspol to meet the Transnistrian leader, Vadim Krasnoselsky. Since , Moldova has been under a Russian embargo for exports of foods and wine, but many companies from the pro-Russian breakaway region of Transnistria and the autonomous region of Gagauzia in Moldova are exempted from the rule.
Chaika then told the Russian daily Kommersant that he wanted to move on with the bitcoin plans. Ever since the war between Moldova and Tiraspol 26 years ago created the breakaway region on the left bank of Dniester river, Gazprom has charged Moldova for the gas that the national energy company Moldovagaz flows into this territory.
Moldovagaz is owned 51 per cent by Gazprom and 49 per cent by the Moldovan Minister of Economy. Meanwhile, Dodon also noted on Thursday that he had talked to Chaika about organising a Moldovan-Russian business forum in September in Chisinau, before the campaign for the parliamentary elections starts.

A New Company Claims It’s Opening the Biggest Mining Farm in Russia
The company has been spearheading several mega-projects of cross-border gas pipelines like the Nord Stream and the South Stream, bringing the Russian gas to Europe. The venue, located in the Khanty-Mansiysk region of northwestern Siberia, is using the associated gas from its oil field as an energy source and has its own power plant transforming the gas into electricity. The CO2 that gets freed during the oil drilling is normally a liability for oil companies as they have to burn it into the atmosphere, which results in fines. However, there are ways to utilize it instead of wasting it, and electricity generation is one of them. In cryptocurrency mining, one of the greatest costs is for the electricity needed to power the mining rigs.
Legality of cryptocurrency by country or territory
Russian entrepreneur and internet ombudsman Dmitry Marinichev has revealed his plans to lease the building of an ex-Rusal factory in Karelia to build a major mining farm, local financial outlet RBC reports. The ambitious mining facility could be responsible for up to 20 percent of Bitcoin's global hash rate. As of now, the whole country only mines 10 percent of the world's BTC production. The company's purpose is to create an ecosystem for miners and investors that would allow challenging China, which controls more than 70 percent of Bitcoin mining. Russia is not alone. As reported by U. Today, Blockstream is also building massive data centers in the US and Canada to decentralize Bitcoin mining. Russia eyes cryptocurrency dominance
Roughly km from St Petersburg, this sleepy little town has an abundance of cheap electricity and arctic-like weather year-round. These two factors have made Kirishi the perfect destination for Austrian mining firm Cryptouniverse. The first crypto mining building has been erected on site and spans an incredible sqm. Inside this giant warehouse stands more than mining rigs with a power capacity of over 20mW. This mining capacity is set to increase in the coming months, putting the company even further ahead of Bitmain. Due to the increasing cost of mining Bitcoin — coupled with the falling prices of Bitcoin — crypto miners are having to suspend their operations.
Remote Siberian data centre reaps rewards of bitcoin rally
The Russian oil company Gazpromneft, the oil subsidiary of Gazprom, is getting into different kind of mining, creating Bitcoin mining farm. According to Coindesk , the company opened a venue where gas energy is used as a source for crypto mining. The site is located in the Khanty-Mansiysk region of northwestern Siberia. During the oil drilling, surplus carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere. The company transforms the gas into electricity, one of the greatest requirements in cyrptocurrency mining needed to power the mining rigs. It seems like an unprecedented development, but the motivation behind the attempt is to recover wasted energy into profitable cryptocurrency. A Gazpromneft spokesperson said they were ready to open its energy resources to Bitcoin miners. It has already guided a mining operation with the mining firm Vekus last autumn.
Russia considers China-like ban on crypto mining and use
With the rise in the cost of cryptocurrencies, a lot of money came into this business, which contributed to the emergence of industrial-scale mining centers. Huge mining farms are being built in places with cheap electricity, clean and cold air. All these conditions exist in China, where large production capacities are concentrated, where the latest ASICs are produced, there are areas with cheap electricity and clean air, and there is also a surplus of labor.

Large Mining Farm Discovered in Abandoned Russian Factory
MineSpot, a company previously unknown in the crypto mining industry, said it is opening a megawatt mining venue in the middle of Siberia that would be the largest mining farm in Russia. It will occupy the building and land of a boiler house that used to serve the dam construction site by providing heat to workers building the dam. The construction of the dam, initiated during the late Soviet era, was completed in ; the Boguchany Dam is now one of the major hydropower plants in Russia. With megawatt power capacity, MineSpot is going to become a new competitor to the mining farms already working in the neighboring Siberian cities of Irkutsk and Bratsk, which also rely on hydropower, but from another dam. MineSpot, however, will be the largest one, exceeding the size of the current leader, BitRiver, which has already put ASICs in more than half of its megawatt farm in Bratsk. Local logistics might make it more challenging for MineSpot than for its older peers.
