The European Digital Identity Wallet is a European Commission Project, that has been led by its president, Ursula Von der Leyen, and that is aiming to enable a unified digital identification system in Europe.
European citizens will be able to digitally save their personal data and documents in an app that will be available to be used in any EU member states. The European Identity Wallet will allow to European citizens to safely save their documents and info in an app, not only their ID or driving licence but also medical records, bank cards or even university degree titles.
This will make easier the way that people are being identified and any other process in any EU member country. The global pandemic caused by Covid has improved digitalization processes for both, companies and public services in all Europe.
Private companies, especially in the financial sector, have been forced to move their services online not to lose clients and business opportunities, as due to the restrictions put in place because of the pandemic, they could not use services on site. This European digital wallet will allow citizens to do process like enrolling in a European university, apply for a scholarship, buy medicines and any other official process that requires an identity verification, in any of the 27 EU member countries.

EBSI uses blockchain to build cross-border services that will allow public administrations and their ecosystems to verify information and make services more trustworthy. In the D4FLY project, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland explores practical solutions for utilizing blockchain technology in two different application contexts: 1 combination of digital identity and biometric solutions, and 2 verification of travel documents authenticity and detection of forged counterfeits.
