Uniquely, Surrey's Blockchain research fuses these technologies, enabling new ways to deliver healthcare, secure our public archives secure, and keep us safe online. Archives are the lens through which future generations will see the events of today. CoMEHeRe is working with Biobeats to explore how Blockchain can be used to broker data from wearable fitness bands to healthcare providers, giving users greater agency over their data and offering both new opportunities to commodify their data and new models for preventative healthcare. The information can be accessed and used by different stakeholders. This includes, among others, car manufacturers, parts suppliers, insurance companies, importers, garages, used-car dealers and portals, vehicle evaluators, road traffic administrators, fleet managers, private buyers, sellers and renters, car rental companies and car recyclers. The cardossier is implemented on the basis of a blockchain with a community approach in combination with smart contracts. This technology was chosen because it is able to establish the necessary trust among the different stakeholders through transparency, immutability and decentralized operation. The processing and administration of all information in the dossier is carried out in compliance with data protection regulations and other regulatory requirements. As a first use case, the project focuses on the change of ownership in the Swiss used-car market. The main goal is to increase trust, transparency and the efficiency of transactions by using blockchain technology. The project will also provide insights into the business, organizational, technical and regulatory implications and opportunities of introducing a blockchain into this type of ecosystem. The BRI has launched a program investigating how blockchain can help manage pandemics and avoid them in the future. We focus on the strategic implications of blockchain technology on business, government and society in Europe. We provide member organizations with in-depth research exploring the opportunities, challenge and implementation hurdles of blockchain in their industry, as well as the impact of technology on corporate management. Blockchain is the foundation for the second era of the internet — an internet of value, where anything of value, including money, our identities, cultural assets like music, and even a vote can be stored, managed, transacted, and moved in a secure, private way. Blockchain is poised to transform every industry and managerial function —redefining the way we make transactions, share ideas, and manage workflow.

The overall aim of this project is to advance knowledge and understanding of the technology, societal impact, and application potential of blockchain technology.

Research Papers

It brought together a stellar group of researchers from industry and academia. A number of researchers at USC are working on developing the technology and applications of blockchain. The ongoing IoT revolution is connecting various types of devices including various types of sensors and actuators with in-network edge and cloud-based intelligence to understand and control systems in many applications. In many IoT application domains including smart-grid, smart buildings, mobile-health, education, and smart cities, there is a need for trusted interaction between heterogeneous individuals and organizations that can be enabled through both permission-less public and permissioned blockchain technologies. Further, CCI researchers are also exploring how blockchain-based tokens can be used for micro-transactions providing access to IoT data and for reserving edge computing resources.
