David Kleiman vs Craig Wright trial: The curious case of Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto

Cryptocurrency enthusiasts unveiled what they say is the world's first statue of mystery-shrouded Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto, at a park in Budapest, Hungary. The expressionless, ultra-shiny bust is meant to represent "a general human figure, since we do not know the gender, race, age [or] height of the mysterious developer," the creators of the project wrote on a website set up for the statue's debut.

The creation of the monument to the digital currency legend was led by Andras Gyofi, the editor of a Hungarian cryptocurrency news site, as well as other key players in the Central European nation's digital currency space. The statue features a hoodie-clad figure constructed of bronze, but the face features a special bronze-aluminum composite so "every visitor can see their own face when looking at Satoshi," the project organizers wrote.

The art was the work of two Hungarian sculptors, Gergely Reka and Tamas Gilly, who decided to make the reflective face to represent a concept of "We are all Satoshi. A global debate has ensued for years as to who the actual person or persons behind the iconic pseudonym is.

Despite many people claiming to be Satoshi Nakamoto -- and a handful of others being called him by investigative reporters -- the actual original author of the whitepaper that launched Bitcoin in has not been identified.

Earlier this month, El Salvador became the first nation in the world to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender. The mythic nature of the Bitcoin creator only seems to lend to his revered status among crypto evangelists.

A large crowd turned out to view the unveiling of the statue on Thursday in Graphisoft Park, a business park in Hungary's capital city. The statue is available for public viewing, free of charge. The sculpture's creators look at Bitcoin as "much more" than just a cryptocurrency, and said they sought to honor the "very important legacy" of its creator.

Living quietly in a Surrey village, is this really the man who invented Bitcoin?

In the lawsuit, the family of David Kleiman, who died in April , claim that the late computer scientist collaborated with his Australian business partner Craig Wright to create the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto and found Bitcoin. Mr Wright reportedly asked Kleiman to help him author a nine-page white paper on the digital currency and launch it in , the family say. Craig Wright, self-declared inventor of Bitcoin, arrives at federal court in Florida. The family also say Mr Wright kept Kleiman's share of about half a million Bitcoins. But this claim has been dismissed by most of the stakeholders in the Bitcoin community. A bronze statue of Satoshi Nakamoto, the mysterious inventor of virtual currency Bitcoin, is pictured in the village of Nagytarcsa, Hungary. Satoshi Nakamoto's white paper was a revolutionary piece that turned the financial world upside down, and the associated invention of the database underpinning Bitcoin and blockchain would become a part of the so-called Fourth Industrial Revolution.

In fact, this is one of the reasons for the success of bitcoin, and the other cryptocurrencies it has inspired since. Satoshi Nakamoto is the.

There are lots of ways to make money: You can earn it, find it, counterfeit it, steal it. It was all bit and no coin. There was no paper, copper, or silver—just thirty-one thousand lines of code and an announcement on the Internet. Nakamoto, who claimed to be a thirty-six-year-old Japanese man, said he had spent more than a year writing the software, driven in part by anger over the recent financial crisis. He wanted to create a currency that was impervious to unpredictable monetary policies as well as to the predations of bankers and politicians. Every ten minutes or so, coins would be distributed through a process that resembled a lottery. Miners—people seeking the coins—would play the lottery again and again; the fastest computer would win the most money.

These sound like the words of a man who invested everything in a failed invention, a man who discards a lost cause, a failed gym membership, or the latest juice diet after determining that enough is enough.
