Helium network anyone? Thread starter dabigm Start date Nov 21, So i'm a bit late to the party but I discovered the Helium network today.

Bare with me, no i'm not trying to sell anything or scam anyone lol. You can buy what they oddly dub "miners" they don't mine anything that are small boxes that connect the LoRA network to your regular home broadband network and you get paid for that because you're adding to the "helium network".

Sounds kinda cool and quirky but it actually looks like you could make a little bit of beer money out of it as well. So after watching some YT vids, I've put an order in for one of the boxes and it should arrive in 22 weeks apparently.

Is anyone else on here a part of this "people's network"? I find the model really interesting building a long range network for IoT devices. It also looks like they plan to do 5G over this. The basic concept is that you're creating a network that IoT devices can use, and you're getting paid for that. I'd be interested to hear if anyone is already part of it, any information that might be useful, or if anyone just fancies a chat about this technology drop a post below!

Heard of it, but thought it's some new crypto currency concoction so I've put it on my mental ignore list, hehe. I was toying with the idea of hosting a LoRA gateway for a long time, just haven't had any time for it. One question though, what happens if someone does dodgy stuff using my network? Is there any way to identify users? J Administrator Staff member. ISPreview Team. I must admit to also being a bit confused about what it is, since their website makes it out to be various different things i.

Pheasant said:. Yes, some feedback from a trusted member would be most welcome. TBM Casual Member. How does the IOT work there now and if it does work already why is Helium needed and able to be viable? I presume it is 2G or similar and is liable to be switched off and Helium to the rescue, but the Helium coverage isn't there for it to be switched off. If another network has to be arranged to plug the gaps it would compete with Helium? TBM said:. Yes, the 5G version had me a bit puzzled, since it's unclear how they're going to implement that, but to me, it seems likely to attract greater running and kit costs at some level i.

If you are getting "paid for it" then presumably there's a way you can cash out your tokens. Which implies that somebody else is prepared to pay cash for these tokens. What can they use them for? Do people need to burn these tokens to use network services? Yes, you get paid, in that the helium tokens can be exchanged for actual money at various crypto exchanges. If you search Youtube there are many videos about it, though I would take them with a grain of salt.

It does look like these hardware devices, expensive as they are, can actually pay for themselves, even few times over in certain cases. I can't believe I'm almost getting involved in this thing, I hate crypto with a passion and some of it is just retarded bitcoin etc , but at least Helium - compared to other crypto that are entirely artificial - at least has a basis in reality, in that it's connected to the actual service you provide to others via the hardware you run yourself.

Had you also mentioned "kubernetes" I would've tracked you down and done some bad things. You must log in or register to reply here. Cheapest Superfast ISPs. Large Availability View All. Cheapest Ultrafast ISPs. A Fact Check. The Top 20 Category Tags.

Helium Network: The Best Crypto Mining Passive Income Business

Helium is a blockchain built from the ground up to incentivize the creation of public and decentralized wireless networks. Officially launched on July 29, Currently, there are 41, hotspots Hotspots providing network and exploiting HNT around the world. Without this, access to the network would require permission from a single hub, the operator of the LNS network. In other words, the PoC tries to continuously verify its location hotspots and the wireless network coverage it is generating from that location. There is no token sale for the Helium project. The majority of HTN tokens are divided among miners when joining the network.

The Helium Network supports people who want to own and operate a wireless network for IoT devices. Any compatible IoT device such as smart pet.

The Helium blockchain is a new, open source, public blockchain created entirely to incentivize the creation of physical, decentralized wireless networks.

Crypto startup Helium showed that a user-run wireless network can be bootstrapped with token rewards, with its original Internet of Things IoT network now boasting more than a quarter of a million active nodes. Now it aims to do the same thing with 5G connectivity in partnership with infrastructure provider FreedomFi , and mobile service and TV provider Dish Network has signed up to help. The company says that another , nodes are back-ordered, suggesting significant additional scale on the horizon. Similarly, users who deploy the new 5G nodes and collectively create the distributed network of service will earn HNT crypto tokens, which can be swapped for other cryptocurrencies at an exchange.

Pinned as the new sensation of the Internet of Things IoT cryptocurrencies and aimed at bettering communities, the Helium blockchain is less than a decade old but has had a rather successful Developed with the goal of creating a physical, decentralised wireless network, Helium is paying individuals in Helium cryptocurrency HNT to operate LoRaWAN a Low Power, Wide Area network protocol designed to wirelessly connect IoT devices to the world wide web hotspots, which communicate to wireless internet connections, instead of producing such links themselves.

Helium (HNT) Crypto: Where Can You Invest in the Future of Wireless Internet?

Helium is a crowdsourced-crypto-blockchain-Iot network working with LoRaWan. With all these trendy name, for sure they had the key elements to raise a large amount of money. Helium is a crowdsourced network. It means, like for TheThingsNetwork or Amazon Sidewalk, the infrastructure, at least the gateways part antennas are provided by anybody, basically you and me. That way the network deployment costs are really limited and the network have no boundaries. You need to add an Helium miner software on a backend system to make it running. When a device message is relayed by Helium network, a forwarding cost is applied, corresponding to 1 Data Credit DC per 24 Bytes message.

While the name the Helium Network Token may lead you to believe it is based on another blockchain, it is actually a misnomer.

Helium enjoyed a successful year in , with the blockchain venturing into 5G coverage and the HNT price ballooning to an all-time high in November. But what is next for Helium prices? Helium, which launched in , pays users for hosting a Helium Hotspot. This payment is made in its native cryptocurrency, HNT. After Helium revealed a new partnership with the major carrier Dish in October , the HNT coin broke its previous price record. Has the network-based cryptocurrency managed to keep up the momentum?

Helium is introducing an open-source blockchain machine network that promises to unleash a new IoT era. Its newly announced Helium Decentralised Machine Network is scheduled to launch later this year and is explained in this detailed white paper. Helium, the company says, is a very different kind of network.

My general assumption of every crypto concept is that it is naturally incentivized to consume all available resources relevant to mining e. So then, what's the resource underlying HNT? Unlicensed ISM spectrum and perhaps antenna rent, and latent internet backhaul.
