Dublin Liberties Distillery - The Keeper’s Coin

A range of premium Irish whiskey from our distillery in the heart of the Dublin Liberties. The liquids have been carefully crafted by our Master Distiller, Darryl McNally, one of the most highly skilled master distillers in Ireland. Instagram Facebook. The Liberties became known as hell. To enter hell, you needed to walk under an archway where a carved oak devil stood and this is where our tale begins.

On the label the oak devil stands watch proudly over the first of our Liberties Irish Whiskeys. Aroma: Baked apples, fresh hay, warm brown sugar, with a floral note. Taste: Lots of upfront sweetness, powdered sugar, toffee apples, cider and caramel. Finish: Gentle prickle of spice: nutmeg, cardamom and cinnamon spice, with lingering sweetness of hard caramels. Now lost to the ages, Copper Alley was the oldest street in Dublin, names after the coin that was first minted there in the 17th century.

The label is inspired by the colour of the coin that was minted on that street and its Celtic Irish origins. Aroma: Delicate honey and powdered sugar sweetness give way to a floral note of apple blossom and red fruits.

Taste: Deep fruity notes of baked plums and red grapes are imparted by Oloroso sherry casks, giving gorgeous oak notes rounded by golden syrup sweetness. Finish: A lingering finish full of rich dark chocolate. The whiskey is then finished in rare Hungarian oak casks previously seasoned with Tokaj, a sweet wine, imbuing rich flavours of ripe apricot flesh, white peach and a hint of coconut.

The finish adds a gentle spice to the experience. Aroma: Marzipan and vanilla sugar with toasted coconut and almonds. Taste: Ripe apricot flesh, white peach and a hint of coconut. Finish: A dry finish with gentle prickle.

The cellar keepers each had their own coins and casks — which is where the name Keepers Coin derives from. Excavations under Christchurch Cathedral unearthed a purse full of silver coins and a number of leather bottles still containing alcohol. On the palate poached pear, warm treacle tart and big fruity notes of dried apricots dominate.

The finish is smooth and rounded with honeyed sweetness. Aroma: Fudge, soft toffee, toasted hazelnuts and baked banana with sea salt caramel. Taste: Poached pears, treacle tart and dried apricots are met by a big oak influence and a salted butter mouth-feel. Finish: The finish is smooth and round with honey sweetness. Mayhem, gambling, duelling, whiskey drinking and debauchery were the order of the day.

Popularly known as the "Black Album" for its black-on-black color scheme, the record was phenomenally successful, ultimately selling over 17 million copies in the US alone on the strength of such iconic songs as "The Unforgiven," "Nothing Else Matters" and of course the mighty "Enter Sandman. This month, to celebrate one of the bestselling albums in the last 30 years, Blackened American Whiskey is pairing the heavy-metal classic with a special new batch. In the past, each batch of Blackened has been "finished" using specially curated playlists of Metallica music. But Batch — created by Blackened Master Distiller and Blender Rob Dietrich , who stepped into the role following Pickerell's untimely death in November — was finished using the Black Album in its entirety. The Black Album-enhanced whiskey is now available as part of Blackened's new Limited Edition Black Album Whiskey Pack, which includes a ml bottle of Batch along with a collectable challenge coin and a Snakebyte Cocktail Booklet, the latter of which features exciting riffs on the classic whiskey-and-lime juice "Snake Bite" cocktail from several notable mixologists.
