For about a year now, Samsung has rather quietly supported a blockchain wallet app on its flagship devices. The idea behind Samsung Blockchain Wallet is that it should make it easy to manage cryptocurrencies on the go.

Samsung Blockchain Wallet appears to work exactly as one would expect. It allows users to easily add accounts connected to specific cryptocurrencies and neatly organizes them into one screen. That screen includes important data at a glance, like market trends, weekly values, and account balances, as well as an overall estimated balance across all currencies.

The app lets people send and receive cryptocurrencies directly. It also supports a wide variety of currencies, including Bitcoin and Ethereum. It uses TEE security and Samsung's proprietary Knox security system, which is the same technology protecting Samsung's military-grade Galaxy S20 model. It also grants access to decentralized apps. The Samsung Blockchain Wallet app is a Samsung-specific app, which means it's only available from the Galaxy Store, and it can only be used on Samsung devices.

The app itself is free to download but there are fees for cryptoasset transfers in some cases, although those fees can usually be paid with the currency being transferred. Samsung Galaxy S10 devices were the first to support the service and they still do. On some devices, it even comes pre-installed. Reports, however, indicate that Verizon blocks the app so it won't be available to people who purchase their Samsung devices through that provider.

Setting up the wallet involves using the Samsung Blockchain Keystore once the app is installed. It's the usual process of setting up a recovery phrase and writing it down, so there's an added layer of security there , too.

The Blockchain Wallet app now has support for Gemini, which brings the whole experience full circle. Instead of simple being able to monitor existing cryptocurrency assets and trade with contacts, the addition of the Gemini service means users can also buy and sell assets from Samsung Blockchain Wallet.

That makes the Samsung app much more useful and adds a simpler mobile management option for people who already use Gemini. On the Gemini website , CEO Tyler Winklevoss lays out some features of the integration, including that it'll allow people to transfer funds into cold storage from their phones as well.

Samsung's Galaxy smartphones can now be used to manage cryptocurrencies in dedicated hardware wallets such as the Ledger Nano S and Nano X, the company has announced. Samsung has been a supporter of cryptocurrencies for some time, starting with the introduction of the Samsung Blockchain Keystore with the Samsung Galaxy S10, which allowed users to securely store these cryptocurrencies on the device. But if you prefer a form of cold, dedicated storage, companies like Ledger also make hardware wallets, such as the aforementioned Nano S and Nano X , and Samsung is now supporting these devices directly in the Blockchain Wallet app, so users can carry out transactions or import funds into the phone as needed. These hardware wallets can be connected via Bluetooth or using a USB cable, but if you want to use Bluetooth, you'll need to have a Galaxy phone that supports the Blockchain Keystore, which includes most Samsung flagships since the Galaxy S
