What is blockchain technology in education
Blockchain is now a way of the world. Blockchain is a technology that puts data into blocks and then chains them together. It contains a digital ledger where cryptocurrencies like bitcoin are stored. Education now uses blockchain technology to chain and share data across institutions, changing the way education is managed. 4 ways in which blockchain can benefit the education sector
The Maharashtra State Skill Development Board has recently taken an initiative to prevent the cases of fake educational certificates which are being shared among the citizens. As per reports, the board has decided to issue a total of 10 lakh digital diploma certificates using blockchain technology. This will be done for a total of 8 academic years and officials expect this move to stop the menace of fake educational certificates.
Moreover, using blockchain will also make it easier for sector to verify the authenticity of the candidates' certificates and will prevent inconvenience faced by genuine candidates. The department has mentioned the implementation of LegitDoc, an Etherium blockchain technology developed by Crossforge Solutions Pvt, which was presented at the startup meet organized by Maharashtra State Innovation Society.
The use of this technology is intended to save the manpower and the time used by the board for handling the certificates. The initiative was recently launched on the occasion of World Youth Skills Day. Sharing more information, Minister Nawab Malik said with this move, Maharashtra has become the first state to implement the world's largest blockchain technology to tackle the issues related to fake education certificates. To begin the process, approximately 10 lakh digital diploma certificates are being made available for online verification, which cannot be tampered.
Reports reveal that the educational document registration based on blockchain technology has been fully implemented currently in three countries - Malta, Singapore and Bahrain. With this decision taken by the board, Maharashtra has become the fourth largest government body in the world and the first state in the country to implement blockchain technology for educational certificates. Minister Malik added that board is also planning to conduct short term add-on courses for students who have dropped out of education as well as those who are pursuing special education. At present, a total of courses are being run under 28 different groups based on the educational qualifications, of which are for a period of 6 months, are for a period of one year and 45 are for a period of two years and full time These courses are being implemented at district and taluka levels.
Besides this, more than institutions have been approved by the board. These courses benefit the students in the rural areas of Maharashtra, especially those who cannot afford education.
By undertaking these courses, the students complete the training program by getting admission in the recognized institutes of the board, and these serve to be boon for employment and self-employment for students who drop out of schools.

NEW TRENDS FOR EDUCATION: BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGY
Blockchain technology has transformed processes into different economic, scientific, and other sectors. In fact, there are platforms that use blockchain technology to make visible the supply chain of the products we eat, managing to follow the path that travels the food from the start of a crop until it reaches our table. Electoral processes can also benefit through blockchain technology since the use of decentralized accounting for vote counting may be a good option to fill in the failures of existing audit systems in elections. In Colombia, the possibility of using this type of technology to systematize property titles or validate studies abroad has already been studied.
Blockchain in schools and colleges
Blockchain is hailed by fervent advocates as a path to a fairer, more democratic world that disrupts the unelected power and influence wielded by multinational companies and financial institutions. With public Blockchain networks, power and ownership is distributed and open to all. The network replaces the reliance on trust — key to traditional transactions — with a reliance on mathematical protocols and economic incentives that keep actors in the network active and honest. As an open-source platform, Blockchain is owned by no-one and organisations and individuals across the globe are scrambling to develop the technology to find new ways to transact in business, government and education that may lead to more transparency, security and privacy for citizens of this promised new world order. Blockchain is a ledger that holds transaction data. The ledger data is replicated across multiple nodes in the network — there is no centralised master copy. Each node holds a copy of the transaction data that anyone can access and verify. Every ten minutes the most recent transactions are bundled into a block hence the name Blockchain. Each block contains a reference to the previous block chaining the blocks together to create a permanent secure record of all verified transactions. The transactions in a block are verified by peers on the network, known as miners, who validate the block by solving a mathematical puzzle.
Higher Education and Blockchain Prove a Convenient Combination
Discover how blockchain changes organisations. The blockchain system is a digital register of transactions that allows creating a secure chain for transactions. These transactions are assembled in blocks. Its main benefits include immutability of data, keeping the records intact, eliminating fraud, and improving compliance.
How Blockchain Technology Can Assist the Education System in 2021
The blockchain revolution has recently come to the education sector with the promise of providing tamper-proof credentials that facilitate student ownership and use of academic records. This means students can share their official records directly with anyone and have them be trusted as authentic. In other words, these records no longer have to be transmitted by a third party, which is a fundamental break from the typical vendor-controlled ecosystems where rents must be paid to store or transmit official records. Most vendors perceive the swelling interest in the promise of this new technology and are responding with PR announcements about their intentions to enter this space. Is this good news?

And historically, ownership of these records has resided with institutions, not individuals. Emerging technologies hold the potential to improve communication between and among education institutions, individuals, and employers. Blockchain in particular has the potential to center all transactions around the learner, empowering them to control their identity and leverage the skills they have learned throughout their life to expand economic mobility. The U. Department of Education Office of Educational Technology began its exploration of blockchain through the Education Blockchain Action Network to better understand how rapidly evolving distributed ledger technology could be applied to rethink our educational system.
4 Ways Blockchain Will Transform Higher Education
By Dashveenjit Kaur 8 April, Blockchain, a buzzword with revolutionary potential, is a public ledger that automatically records and verifies transactions. Also known as distributed ledger technology DLT , it is the fundamental building block that powers Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other virtual currencies.

Blockchain technology is regarded as another disruptive technology after the cloud computing,Internet of things and big data, which is received high concern by the governments, financial institutions andtechnology enterprises. Essentially, blockchain technology is a kind of technical scheme to maintain a reliabledatabase by means of decentralization and high trust. Its core technologies include distributed accountingtechnology, asymmetric encryption algorithm and intelligent contract. Furthermore, it has the distinguishedcharacteristics such as decentralization, consensus mechanism, traceability and high trust. Nowadays, as theunderlying technology of bitcoin, blockchain technology is not only applied in the field of finance, but also has greatpotential in education.
Blockchain has impacted several sectors and the field of education is no exception. During times of the pandemic, the education sector was quick to adapt to digitization. This is where blockchain can prove to be a game-changer. To begin with, blockchain can hugely change the way students and teachers interact and also the manner in which academic documentation is handled. The transparency and accountability of blockchain's distributed ledger technology can immensely benefit the education sector. Let's take a look at how blockchain can impact education. Transferring records of students who are on exchange programs or those who change institutions in the middle of the academic year can be managed easily using blockchain.
Data is the key to measuring educational effectiveness promptly. But data and education are trapped and siloed across centralized systems, causing information discrepancies and inaccuracies. This has caused countless delayed opportunities, academic credential disagreements, and never-ending confusion around learning potency. This lack of transparency, despite having its fair share of usefulness, has also been quite burdensome.
