Biter bitcoin news
Only a few years old, this virtual currency has been on a roller coaster ride. Last year, Bitcoins traded for only a few pennies. More recently, they've traded in the low- to mid-single digits — still a huge gain for early investors. Instead, their worth is determined by a computer algorithm invented by an anonymous, shadowy programmer. No clearing house, government agency or mint watches over them.

Ozzy Osbourne Is Betting Fans Will Be Hungry for His New NFTs
A lot of investors are having success with cryptocurrency these days. But that doesn't mean you're comfortable with the idea. Cryptocurrency can be very volatile -- more so than stocks.
So it's easy to see why it's not the most suitable investment for everyone. Still, there are steps you can take to make it a safer prospect. Here are a few to check off your list if you think you'll be buying cryptocurrency. When you buy stocks, there are different reasons why their value might decline. For one thing, the stock market itself could crash or undergo a correction. Or a company might put out poor earnings or have a product recalled.
But there are different factors that could cause cryptocurrency values to plummet. New regulations, for example, could result in a world of upheaval, and it's hard to know when those will come down the pike. Furthermore, if merchants that accept cryptocurrency as payment start halting that practice, that, too, could impact the value of those investments. This isn't to say that you shouldn't buy cryptocurrency due to these risks. But it's important that you know they exist.
Because cryptocurrency values can swing wildly, you may want to ease into that specific asset class. That means starting off with just a small portion of your money in crypto and seeing how that goes before buying more. When investment values tank, you don't automatically lose money. That's because what you're seeing are losses on paper or more accurately, on screen. It's when you unload investments at a lower price than what you paid for them that actual losses occur.
To avoid a scenario where you're forced to cash out cryptocurrency holdings when they're down, aim to have a fully loaded emergency fund before dabbling in them. That generally means having enough cash in your savings to pay for three to six months of essential living expenses.
Some digital coins tend to get more press than others. But publicity shouldn't serve as the basis for your investing decisions. Rather than aim to buy those "in the news" currencies, do your research. Figure out what makes one cryptocurrency option more viable or potentially profitable than another, rather than automatically assume that the names you know are the right ones for your portfolio. Investing in cryptocurrency isn't for the faint of heart. If you have your reservations, know that there are ways to make investing in digital coins a less scary prospect.
That said, don't feel like you're missing out if you decide you're just not ready to take that plunge. While it's true that some investors are doing very well within the digital currency space, there are plenty of ways to grow a lot of wealth outside of cryptocurrency. And if sticking to assets like stocks and bonds better aligns with your strategy and risk tolerance, then there's nothing wrong with going that route and seeing where it takes you.

Digital assets started the year with a stampede of cash from investors large and small. And bitcoin and its kin were rarely out of the spotlight since, with the language of crypto becoming firmly entrenched in the investor lexicon. Bitcoin: Still no. The original cryptocurrency held its crown as the biggest and most well-known token - though not without a host of challengers biting at its heels. Fuelling it was a tsunami of cash from institutional investors, growing acceptance by major corporations such as Tesla Inc and Mastercard Inc and an increasing embrace by Wall Street banks. The promise of quick gains amid record-low interest rates, and easier access through fast-developing infrastructure, also helped attract buyers. Yet the token stayed volatile.

The days of endless money printing must end; governments must finally deliver a currency that their populations can use and trust. I can empathize with the crypto vision. Simple mathematics will tell you that fiat currency is flawed; artificially creating money with reckless abandon will inevitably devalue the currency.

The massive drop in its valuation is a result of multiple steps taken by governments across the world to clamp down on the cryptocurrency. The Chinese government is mulling over cutting the supply of subsidised electricity to Bitcoin miners. This, if realised, could be a massive blow to Bitcoin movement as over two-thirds of the mining power for the currency is stationed in China. South Korea, on the other hand, recently raided major cryptocurrency exchanges in the country.

As more cryptocurrencies come into existence, what has allowed bitcoin to remain the dominant cryptocurrency with the largest market capitalisation? In October , a white paper proposing a peer-to-peer electronic cash system was published under the name of Satoshi Nakamoto. Satoshi still remains an unknown figure, but the paper and the ideas it contained has taken off in a big way in the past 10 years. The peer-to-peer electronic system proposed in that specific paper was bitcoin — a term, payment method, and investment mode that started to grow within certain sectors for almost a decade before hitting mainstream popularity in late Bitcoin may have been the first cryptocurrency, but many alternative coins, also known as Altcoins , have used the framework provided by bitcoin to break into the cryptocurrency game.

Grayscale is so mainstream that investors could even plunk shares of the Decentraland trust into their Individual Retirement Accounts. No sooner did the trust hit the market than the value of MANA quintupled over the next four weeks. Four months later, MANA, like virtually everything else, has come back to earth. If you read the Decentraland white paper , what comes through is the simplicity of its value proposition.
