If you try to do that and then queue up more plots after, it starts trying to do more than 3 at the same time, filling up the SSD and then just sits there. You have to delete the plots manually and start the software again which requires syncing again, which takes a while.

I'm sure people are mostly doing it on linux machines where you can run a better queue system or cron or something, a script to check for space and files before starting new processes etc. It's pretty immature software. The way it writes to the SSD is extremely stupid. It should buffer data in RAM a lot more before writing it. As it is, it seems to work in multiples of about MB files, probably related to the K value it uses.

If it worked with 2GB files it would be a lot more efficient, especially if it could do whatever it needs to do before writing them at all and then writing them out in chunks of whatever it can do with the system RAM.

The problem is it takes a lot of time, electricity and SSD useful life to generate each plot before you can farm it. So yeah, it's not efficient at all, it will generate more e-waste than regular crypto mining due to people using up SSDs and swapping out small spinning drives to larger ones.

If anything, it may be worse than Eth mining overall for the planet and might catch up to and be worse than Bitcoin if it keeps growing. I could get behind that. As it is now, chia just chews up SSDs and fills up hard drives with garbage that just sits there and perpetually takes up space that can't be used for anything useful. Hard drives suck some power and resources to keep them online and connected even if they are very lightly used.

I'm very appreciative of that. But at the same time I'm just grimacing and "but you're just adding to the problem!
