Is crypto mining bad for gpu
Last week, NortonLifelock announced that the Norton antivirus suite would soon be able to mine Ethereum cryptocurrency while the computer is idle. In this article, we go hands-on with the new 'Norton Crypto' feature to show what's good about it and what's bad. The Norton Crypto announcement was met with a wide range of responses, ranging from ridicule to exasperation, that an antivirus software would offer cryptocurrency mining. However, as miners, wallets, and cryptocurrency utilities are commonly flagged as malicious by antivirus software, Norton's argument was to provide a safe alternative to Ethereum mining that does not require you to turn off antivirus software. To test this feature, BleepingComputer purchased a license for Norton and joined the EAP program to illustrate how the new feature works.

Nvidia’s mining limiter has been hacked to be only 70 per cent effective
A traditionally lower-margin segment of the video card industry, the low-end desktop cards are typically the last to launch, and that has been particularly the case this generation, as the required production resources have been tied up making higher-end video cards. But either way you get there, the net result is an RTX Meanwhile TDPs have also been scaled down accordingly with the weaker hardware. More unexpectedly, the PCIe bus width has also been scaled down for this part.
It should not make much if any of a performance difference, but it underscores the fact that RTX was meant to be a GAbased card. Consequently, expect to see the usual mix of dual and triple fan cooled cards, with a heavy emphasis on factory overclocked cards.
Zotac is offering versions of the card with and without factory overclocks, with the factory overclocked version set to come at a pricing premium. The RTX is significantly more powerful than any of the GTX series cards — and even edges out some of the cards — so even if GTX 16 series production continues, those cards are definitely getting knocked down a peg this week.
Among current generation cards, at least, the RTX seems set to occupy a niche of its own with regards to performance. This also makes it very hard to predict street pricing, however. So like the launch of the RX XT last week, even the launch of a low-end video card can be a big help in getting video cards into the hands of hungry PC users.
And like the other video card launches in the past year, we expect to see them sell out quickly. So good hunting. FP16 Post Your Comment Please log in or sign up to comment.

The great GPU crisis - why are graphics cards so expensive now, and just how bad is it?
Should you buy a used mining GPU? Usually, you may want to avoid graphics cards that were used around the clock to mine cryptocurrency. Is that a deal breaker? Cheap mining graphics cards flooded the used market after the cryptocurrency collapse.
Will GPUs Get Cheap After Ethereum Ends GPU Mining? Unfortunately, It Depends
Is Dogecoin bad for your PC? Aside from the impact on GPU supply for PC gamers and its environmental impact, one accusation aimed at cryptocurrency mining is that it harms your graphics card and wears it out quickly. Whether you're mining for Dogecoin , Ethereum , Litecoin or Monero, these are considerations you need to take into account. Mining harms your GPU in the sense that one of its by-products is producing excess heat. However, mining is not alone in placing stress onto a GPU.
A teenager and his sister say they make $35,000 a month by mining Bitcoin
Before , there was no such thing as cryptocurrency. As technology advanced to keep up with the rampant demand, cryptocurrency mining became a reality for many on their home computers. Over the years, the mining process and its efficiency have improved with the use of better hardware. Graphics Processing Units GPU have been used in the mining process for years, simply because they are more efficient than their immediate counterparts. However, its limited processing speed and high power consumption led to limited output, rendering the CPU-based mining process inefficient. A standard GPU, like a Radeon HD , clocked processing speeds of executing 3, bit instructions per clock, which was times more than the speed of a CPU that executed only 4 bit instructions per clock. It is this property of the GPU that makes them suitable and better for cryptocurrency mining, as the mining process requires higher efficiency in performing similar kinds of repetitive computations. The mining device continuously tries to decode the different hashes repeatedly with only one digit changing in each attempt.
Here's how much electricity it takes to mine Bitcoin and why people are worried
Bitcoin GPU Mining. No one uses them anymore, and they're just collecting dust As far as I can tell they're Nvidia m cards. Please note that the prevalence of GPU and ASIC miners mean that unless you have free electricity, this is highly unlikely to be profitable!
We are gamers, through and through. We obsess about new gaming features, new architectures, new games and tech. And users are constantly discovering new applications for them, from weather simulation and gene sequencing to deep learning and robotics. Mining cryptocurrency is one of them. RTX software drivers are designed to detect specific attributes of the Ethereum cryptocurrency mining algorithm, and limit the hash rate, or cryptocurrency mining efficiency, by around 50 percent.
Although building a PC yourself can usually net you hundreds of dollars in savings, a continued rise in the cost of components makes it nearly impossible to put together a machine at a reasonable price. And the main reason why is the ongoing GPU shortage. GPU prices ebb and flow with demand and RAM prices rock up and down like a roller coaster, and those two components alone can represent a significant portion of your build price. This time is different, though. A perfect storm of constrained supply, overwhelming demand, and market expansion would lock buyers out of finding a graphics card for more than a year. And although things are getting better, the problem is far from over. The shortage stemmed from increased demand due to rising Ethereum prices, which is an alternative to Bitcoin that is still contributing to the shortage today.
To find out which gpu video card is better for mining, we compare its cost, hashrate, and consumption. More cards you have, more profit you will see. Also, can the GPU be used to mine?
