E xtracting valuable commodities in British Columbia is dictated by geography and geology so mines often wind up in far-flung places where ore has been deposited in concentrations that may be worth mining. BC has abundant mineral wealth but it is largely low-grade ore so the mines are typically large and therefore the challenges of access and delivering water and electricity also become large. BC Hydro is currently seeking permission from the Vancouver Park Board to bury underground power cables through Nelson Park to connect the planned West End Substation External website, opens in new tab to the existing electrical system. As impacts are identified, the project team will study potential options that could help reduce impacts to the park and identify opportunities for potential park improvements. Review the finalised engagement summary following our public engagement in fall and the impact report regarding BC Hydro's proposed works within Nelson park.
