Andreas m. antonopoulos educates senate of canada about bitcoin
Andreas and the Committee should be commended, they have done an incredible job on a very difficult subject. However, there are some aspects I believe remain unclear for the senators trying to understand the entire scope of bitcoin and digital currencies and what they mean to our society. I truly believe I can give some points that may shed much light on this confusion. The senate committee, like many other entities are in a state of shock and may or may not realize it. I think it is best to start with the end game quote to understand exactly where we as society and you in your government roles sit. But it is sometimes remarkable how political contexts can evolve.

He cites the example of M-Pesa , a mobile phone-based money transfer service which started in several African nations with people transferring phone minutes to one another as a de facto currency.
While most currencies are governed by a central bank that oversees the value and regulates supply, Bitcoin has no such thing. Technology that moves money obviously will have applications in areas where money is difficult to move. Will crime happen on Bitcoin? Of course it will, just like any other currency. Reflections on Bitcoin’s Epochs with Andreas M. Antonopoulos
Bitcoin evangelist Andreas Antonopoulos today appeared before the Canadian Senate to make the case for bitcoin's freedom, touting the promise of decentralized financial systems and calling for a better understanding of the technology before regulation is considered. It was the 11th meeting of the Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce's special study on the potential threats, risks and advantages of digital currencies. So far it has seen presentations by members of the bitcoin community and the existing financial and payments industries. Described by committee chairman Senator Irving Gerstein as an individual "considered to be the bitcoin guru", Antonopoulos made a minute introductory presentation before fielding questions from other committee members. In his introduction, Antonopoulos spoke mainly of the advantages and opportunities presented by a decentralized financial system, over the multiple failings of the current centralized model. Centralization, he said, made the current financial system fragile and impenetrable to new players, and introduced systemic risks through the multiple layers of regulation required. This created "cosy relationships between regulators and industry insiders" which has led to corruption and financial crises.
