This version of monstache is designed for MongoDB 3. It uses the official MongoDB golang driver and the community supported Elasticsearch driver from olivere. Some of the monstache settings related to MongoDB have been removed in this version as they are now supported in the connection string.

Monstache now defaults to use change streams instead of tailing the oplog for changes. Without any configuration monstache watches the entire MongoDB deployment. You can specify specific namespaces to watch by setting the option change-stream-namespaces to an array of strings. The interface for golang plugins has changed due to the switch to the new driver. I have a collection that has 17Million documents in it. I have enabled direct read for that specific collection and it has gotten up to about 4.

Is there some type of limit that would prevent sending this entire collection? I've attached my configuration for review. I am using direct-read-ns to copy a view of documents from mongo to initialize an index in es.

The view itself is a lookup between a collection and another view itself made of a lookup between 2 other collections. Before the cursor error I also get some document rejected by es due to field formatting issue. I doubt it has anything to do with the cursor issue I need to fix some documents obviously.

But I mention it just in case. For now I have disabled change events to focus on the initial direct read sync. I am using monstache 5. Seeing these error below messages every few minutes in monstache logs. Ingestion in production is also relatively slower compared to our dev tests. The only difference between the tests was adding a namespace-regex in prod. Is filtering performance expensive? I have an interesting idea that I might try and work on The issue I see is that the opLog will only detail changes to the MongoDB collections that comprise the view.

The idea I am toying with is that using a Monstache config setting we could define an array of collections that make up the view, and then when one of those collections are detected as having an update in the opLog we then go to the named MongoDB view. This would then in effect allow for the replication of complex views built up out of aggregates and could be quite a powerful concept for searching data in ES.

Monstache's log doesn't show any error, it is full of lines like I posted below. It ran fine, then.. I just restarted the Monstache container, not touching anything else, and it is now continuing the process. What kind of event could make it believe it is up to date where a restart would behave differently?

Hello, the sync stops working after an random time. A few days everything can work properly and then the sync of any changes stops working.

Sometimes it happens several times a day. And sync can stop working only for several collections and can all at once. And Monstache begins to heavily load the CPU. After restarting Monstache everything is working properly. I found nothing in the logs, and I can't trace the pattern. What could be the problem?

Not sure if this functionality already exists but my use case is since writing to elasticsearch isn't exactly fast some data that is needed real time is lagged behind.

So I was thinking of having the ability to have an instance of monstache that only checks for those fields that are needed real time and ignoring the rest.

Is that possible? More of a question than an issue: How does monstache trigger the exit for the exit-after-direct-read option when direct reading a collection? To my understanding, when it is direct reading a collection it will also sync any live changes. Does this mean that if inserts are frequently occurring for the mongo collection, then the exit will not trigger?

There are some fields that do not even exist in the DB and they are being added to the Elastic Search. My document consists of fields like about, avatar, approved.

I'm investigating using monstache on an EC2 instance to replicate a subset of the data in a large MongoDB 3. Many questions are arising as it looks like many of the "recipes" out there to set up monstache may be outdated on how to set everything up, and many contradict each other.

I'd love a link to a current set of instructions that will get me up and running in a smart way if the recommended way is now docker then show me how to get it running from scratch under docker, ideally all the way from provisioning the empty instance and installing necessary prerequisites. I've not used docker a whole lot, so hopefully someone can take me through from the beginning.

Next steps would be more than just how to get a POC running, but guidance on how it's being done for real in a production environment like right-sizing a prod instance of monstache, restarting, monitoring, etc.

Hi, I used to work with logging to file and recently I switched to graylog. When I work with files, if some indexing error occur I see it in 'error. Then I switched to Graylog and not all logs appear, missing all indexing errors. I assume that it is related to the UDP communication. The indexer statistics printed in the standard out says there are some failures.
