In this video, I discuss the differences between Bitcoin and Visa when it comes to TPS (transactions per second) and final settlement ability. Unlike Bitcoin, Visa relies on the US banking system rails and ultimately US military to achieve final settlement.

As a bearer asset like gold, Bitcoin achieves final settlement on its own, without having to rely on external authorities. This needs to be kept in mind, when debating the energy usage of the Bitcoin network, and whether it is excessive.

Bitcoin can easily scale by increasing the fiat value of each transaction, and by relying on Layer 2 solutions like the Lightning Network.
