Des Ki Baat: Digital Rupee Using Blockchain To Be Issued By RBI In 2022-2023

Des Ki Baat - February 1, 2022: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget for the fiscal year of 2022 on Tuesday, February 1. As part of her presentation, Sitharaman announced that India will get its Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) this year, which will be regulated by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Essentially, the finance minister has announced a Digital Rupee for India supported by blockchain technology, which is also the foundation of cryptocurrencies. "We strive to provide necessary ecosystem for middle class. This Budget hopes to lay the foundation for Amrit Kal from India at 75 to India at 100," Ms Sitharaman said today. (Audio in Hindi)
