First blockchain-based, electric vehicle-to-building pilot project in Canada

Published
Markham interviews Carter Li, Switch Energy, about a three-year project that uses two-way, vehicle-to-grid (V2G) charging technology to store energy in a Nissan Leaf during off-peak hours, then redistributes the electricity to the building during on-peak hours, creating a bidirectional energy flow that is cost-effective and environmentally sustainable. Blockchain software technology is used to track the two-way flow of energy between the vehicle and the building on a simple smartphone app that automatically credits or debits the vehicle owner, accordingly.
