Session: ‘Sustainable and Financial Utility in Digital Assets Systems’ in Partnership with Ripple

While 2022 saw an increase in government crackdowns on energy-intensive crypto mining, Ethereum moved to a low carbon consensus method, joining other major blockchains like the XRP Ledger, Solana, and Algorand in being carbon neutral. Separately, crypto and blockchain utility in financial use cases grew through solutions targeted for remittances, disbursements, treasury management, lending and more. This signals a need for the blockchain industry to address both energy consumption and real-world utility of the technology underpinning many of the solutions currently in the market and the role that digitization plays in building sustainable systems on a global scale. We will explore the nuances of the discussion around applications in the blockchain space and how businesses are thinking about this problem of balancing innovation with sustainability when developing their business models and solutions for global audiences.
